I guess last weekends theme was "Fuck it, i'll try it!" Not even joking. I started off the weekend friday DCDungeon for Fet101. CurtisMercury was demoing floggers and whips. I've tried floggers before. Big, suede, leather floggers curtsey of Silver-Switch at DOWF.
Curtis had with him a signal whip. The difference between a signal whip and a bull whip is a handle. A signal whip is braided all the way to the end. A bull whip has a distinct, gripable handle. It changes the way you use the whip. In a signal whip, the fall (end piece) is usually braided into the leather. The falls are replaceable, but with a signal whip they have to be braided back in. In a bull whip, the fall is a separate piece that is easy to switch out. This is easy if you're playing rough enough with other partners to start drawing blood. The falls are often made out of leather or nylon, neither of which are able to be completely disinfected once contaminated with blood or other body fluids. Sweat is a poor disease vector so that is generally not worried much about.
Whipping was interesting. It was intense and cathartic. I'd do it again in a heart beat even if i'm not feeling particularly masochistic just because the endorphin rush afterward was so hard. The marks are neat. One of the cool things about whipping (and caning too actually) is that you don't even have to put that much force into a blow to cause sensation, pain or marks. Whipping can be sensual, it just takes a more experienced top to control their instrument.
I also tried out cat-o-nine-tails. The catos are kind of like if a flogger and a whip had a sexy baby. They were red leather. One was heavier/larger than the other and i preferred the smaller one. Interesting sensation.
The final thing i tried on Sunday was @HarshJudgement's brand new tens unit. (Stolen pic from dreamtime.com on the right is not the exact unit, but it's similar). For those of you unfamiliar with a tens unit the about.com definition is "TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, which sounds much scarier than it actually is. With TENS, sticky electrodes are placed on the skin around the painful area. When the TENS unit is turned on, it delivers a light current through the electrodes to the skin and tissues just beneath it. Using TENS feels a bit like tingling, or pins and needles, though the intensity can be set high enough to make a muscle twitch." I've been told tens units are the other end from violet wands (which i've also tried). In order of sensation it goes violet wand, stun gun, tens unit. Don't ask me where cattle prods fit in, RED. But that is basically what it felt like. One electrode was put on my tail bone and the other was put above my clit on my mons. It felt like there were ants under my skin sometimes. It was neat being remote controlled. I tried to attack @HarshJudgement and he wasn't having any of that... It was really cool and i look forward to trying it again.
